Athens Airport Fuel Pipeline Company

Athens Airport Fuel Pipeline Company (AAFPC) financed, constructed and operates the Aircraft Fuel Supply Pipeline for the carrying of aircraft fuel to the Athens International Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos”

The Athens Airport Fuel Pipeline Company represents a major and viable investment project of about Euro 24 million that provides clear benefits particularly for the environment since it has a positive impact in the reduction of atmospheric pollution and traffic congestion in the greater Athens area. Additionally, thanks to the underground routing of the pipeline both the natural environment and the settlement are unaffected.

Furthermore, the operation of the pipeline contributes to the development of the new Athens International Airport as well as the aircraft fuel market in Greece.

The total length of the pipeline is 53 km and it connects the Hellenic Petroleum refinery at Aspropyrgos with the installations of the Olympic Fuel Company S.A located at the new Athens International Airport at Spata. The routing of the pipeline is alongside the new Attiki Odos Highway. Its capacity is equal to 2.6 million m3 per annum and is considered sufficient to fulfil the anticipated demand for aircraft fuel at the Athens International Airport for the next 25 years. The pipeline is adequately equipped with fully automated systems for control, operation and environmental protection. Some of these systems are applied for the first time in Greece. The operation of the pipeline started in February of 2004.

Apart from Motor Oil (16%) the other shareholders of Athens Airport Fuel Supply Pipeline Company are the Hellenic Petroleum Company (50%) and the Athens International Airport (34%).

The operation of the new Athens International Airport offers a secured market with constantly increasing demand for aircraft fuel of guaranteed quality thus achieving the economic viability of the AAFPC project. Furthermore, the participation in the AAFPC of all the Greek refineries and the Athens International Airport, represents a powerful and dynamic consortium capable to operate it according to the highest international standards.
